“MONDAY, 8AM ET,” reads the post on X from the official account of British band Oasis, with the hashtag #OasisLive25, which is the name of the group’s concert tour.
The cryptic message is accompanied by four photos of Oasis billboards in what appear to be North American cities, including one looming over the corner of Yonge and Dundas streets in Toronto.
Rumours have been circulating for weeks that the band will play two shows next August at Downsview Park — a rumour that takes on added interest with this week’s announcement that Live Nation will build a live outdoor music venue at the park, with the 50,000-seat Rogers Stadium to host shows as early as June 2025.
Oasis, fronted by brothers Noel and Liam Gallagher, announced a reunion tour in August, with shows in the United Kingdom and Ireland quickly selling out.
As of the end of August, the band was scheduled to play 17 concerts, its first together in 15 years, with plans for “other continents outside of Europe later next year.”
A couple of Star staffers ventured to Yonge and Dundas to see the billboard for themselves.
The electronic sign, which looms over the Fido store on the northwest corner of the intersection, says, “Be careful what you wish for.” The words appear above a photo of the Gallagher brothers with the words “Monday 8AM ET” and “oasis” below.
There seems little doubt Toronto fans will be on tenterhooks waiting to see what happens Monday morning.
