1995 John Cooper Grand Prix Mini #2/35 Very Rare Indeed
I am pleased to offer this very rare 1995 John Cooper Garages Mini Grand Prix Edition.  This example is #2 of 35 produced and is finished in red with light beige leather interior (specific to the Grand Prix).  The Grand Prix has from new Stage 3 head developing 86 HP (standard Cooper has 61 HP), this makes for a very quick and fun Mini to own and drive.   VIN # is SAXXNNAYCBD09825 and mileage shows 92,188 +/- miles.  Car is currently titled in the owner’s name in Georgia (see last picture).
Along with special leather seats, the spec includes
    – Leather gear stick gaiter
    – Leather handbrake gaiter
    – Leather door panels front and rear
    –  Mota-lita leather John Cooper steering wheel
    –  Original equipment grey ultralite Mini light alloys with new Yokohama A539’s all round
    – Quickshift gear selector
    – Stainless steel twin outlet exhaust
    – CD changer with Kenwood head unit
Below is an excerpt from the launch announcement for the Grand Prix Mini Cooper:
John Cooper Garages are producing a very special limited edition of only 35 Mini Coopers called the “Grand Prix”.  This is to celebrate the 35th anniversary of mini and the anniversary of Cooper Racing Cars winning the Formula one Grand Prix World Championship.  The cars will be individually numbered on an original enameled metal plaque affixed to the interior.  All will be registered from new in John Cooper’s name and then after hours of careful work will be available for the public to purchase.
The Grand prix will feature many modifications to the engine, suspension, interior and exterior.  With a high investment in engine technology, an all new fuel injection management system (Weber Alpha system) has been developed and with comprehensive engine uprating, power is increased to an impressive 86 HP.  Changes to the suspension further improve the Grand Prix’s great handling characteristics.
The interior abounds in soft beige leather with walnut dash and trim in highly original Cooper alloy fittings throughout.  External features include new alloy wheels with wider tires and wheel arches.  New Grand Prix decals finish it off together with unique Cooper badging front and rear.
John Coopers vision for the car was one that would have all the punch of a well tuned road-racer yet with all the sophistication and refinement of an executive saloon.
Engine : 1300cc Cooper injection unit, large valves,  ported and gas flowed cylinder head. New camshaft and valve rocker assemblies, Weber Alpha injection system
Exhaust : Janspeed unit retaining catalytic convertor
Suspension : Adjustable shock absorbers all round
    Peformance : Power output : 86BHP . 0-60 mph 9sec . Torque : 20% increase over the standard Cooper unit
The body is in overall excellent condition, there is no visible rust anywhere on the car, top or bottom, it did have 5000 ( pounds sterling ) worth of work done on her approximately 3 years ago.  Overall I would give it a 9 out of 10 and this is my opinion obviously , the reason it would not give it a 10 is the fact that in my opinion the wheels are showing signs of their age, although the 4 Yokohama tires are new the rims were not refinished .
The interior is in good condition as well, if you look at the things that set this apart from any other normal Cooper you will see the steering wheel has John Coopers signature cast into the aluminum as well as the gauges having his signature as pictured .
Overall this car is a blast to drive, it starts every time even if it has been sitting, it would make a great addition to anyone’s collection , sure you could find faster minis with R1 bike engines in them, but you will not find another original John Cooper owned car unless you would like to buy 1 of the other 34 made and I am not sure if they are still all in existence , I was told that #34 and #35 were never completed due to a fire but I cannot verify that fact for sure.
