    Description

    Unusual Japanese ceramic handled cup made in neriage (agateware) technique. Neriage (translated as “mix and pull up”) is achieved by laminating different colored clays together. Usual neriage is done by indiscriminate
    kneading of the clay and results in swirling and spiraling effect, but this cup uses much more complicated lamination involving spreading wet clay on cloth and giving it beautifully structured surface with woven cloth texture. Superbly made, glazed inside to provide ease of washing, wonderful patterns, inscribed by the potter the bottom, very pleasant to hold. Height 3 3/16 inches, diameter 3 inches.
